• After Show Interview with BBC Radio Solent

After show interview with Lucy Ambache following my BBC RADIO SOLENT interview.

We discussed my thoughts on what the solution is to addressing and solving the issue of racism in the UK. My answer to the first and best step was to simply continue having these conversations. No one is going to understand your experiences in a way you appreciate unless YOU talk about it. And if you’re truly an ally it’s something you can also continue having conversations about. These conversations on these issues such as racism should only be given a spotlight when it’s popular to talk about or the trending topic. We can only make a difference if we’re consistent with it but I’m hopeful x

Keep a look out for my full interview with Lucy Ambache which includes my live performance of one of my poems by @sincerelydenyze.x on Instagram, I hope you enjoy it and are able to take away even just message from it.

Thank you to Lucy, BBC Radio Solent, and BBC Uploads for this amazing opportunity and interview, and I look forward to more open conversations on issues of race and identity in the UK.

  • Phenomenally black and a woman

    To be black

    And a woman

    Is a death sentence

    From the start.

    Stanza 1

    II:

    We’ve all heard the stories

    Read the books

    Watched the movies

    But today

    I wanna tell you

    how phenomenal

    black women are.

    Stanza 2

    III:

I know it’s cliche to say.

    But,

    Your dark chocolate.

Made from the finest, richest cocoa beans,

Cocoa butter skin like Thee Stallion.

    Some people love you,

    Some people hate you.

    But you’re good to everyone.

    Stanza 3

    IV:

You are like a warm embrace from the sun.

You carry the sun’s rays within the sparkle of your eyes,

Within the shimmer of your skin in the sun.

    Golden hour all year round.

    And like the sun,

You light up every room you touch.

You warm up the hearts of others around you.

    Stanza 4

    V:

    And yet,

You’re also the child of the moon,

Your eyes reflecting the night sky.

    The brightness within you,

As bright as the moon and all the stars that light up the night sky.

Spend time with a black woman

    And I promise you,

The memory of her love stays with you forever,

Like the moon accompanies the earth,

    Day or night.

    Stanza 5

    VI:

And like the sun and moon

That have been the inspiration for countless poems, songs, artwork,

    You continually inspire.

    Although you are constantly imitated

    With no appreciation,

    Nothing,

    Can ever beat the original.

    Stanza 6

    VII:

From the hips to the lips,

From the curves to the melanin,

They can plagiarise all they like

But you’ll always be the original source material.

    Stanza 7

    VIII:

    Just as Maya Angelou said,

    It really is in

    ”the reach of your arms,

    The span of your hips,

    The stride of your step,

    The curl of your lips.”

    After all,

    We are black.

    Black women,

    Phenomenally.

    Phenomenal black women.

    Stanza 8

  • Coronavirus Hero Award

I received a call from my mother today about a letter I’d received from our local MP, also the Vice Chairman of the Conservative party, Alan Mak . Imagine her delight when she opened it for me and it was an award. The Havant Constituency Coronavirus Hero Award.

I was only able to achieve this award due to the wonderful local residents who nominated me unbeknownst to me. Hence I’d like to extend my many thanks to Alan Mak, as well as the local residents who nominated me. I’m extremely grateful and always happy to do my part in society 🙂
